Meeting with the Food & Health Bureau on June 12, 2020

The COVID-19 outbreak has spread globally and Hong Kong has also been affected. Fortunately, due to self-discipline of Hong Kong people, the epidemic in Hong Kong in the first half of 2020 is relatively mild. However, under the epidemic, many industries were affected, the tourism industry was the first to suffer a major blow, and the hotel industry was facing unprecedented major difficulties. The representative of The Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners met with Professor Sophia CHAN, Secretary for Food and Health on June 12, to discuss the positioning and countermeasures of the hotel industry under the epidemic, and express the demands of the hotel industry; including establish a tourism bubble with other region whose the epidemic is mild or already under control, accelerate the implementation of the health code mutual recognition system in Hong Kong, and gradually restore people's exchanges between the two places in a safe environment, etc. The Secretary responded that the Government understand this is a hard time to the hotel industry, and emphasized that the government will makes careful observations and considerations, so as to control and combat the epidemic as soon as possible so that Hong Kong can resume to normal operations.
